Roadworks on A61 Penistone Road - potential delays

Recommended Posts

All roadworks are extensively planned and have to be agreed with the Council, who have a specialist team that deals with planing and regulating roadworks.

The people who are promoting these works have a statutory right to bury their plant in the road, the Council cannot stop them. The work on the A61 looks to be part of a major programme of works.

They do plan as much work as possible over the summer when traffic is lightest. However, you have to be realistic, not all the work needed can be done in the summer. There is a moratorium on all significant roadworks over the Christmas and New Year period so as to minimise disruption over the busiest time of year on the roads.

as you say yourself trafic is lighter in summer, bearing in mind it's one of the busiest roads in sheffield at the best of times,so a little common sense would've gone a long way and disrupution would be kept to a minimum, must be the same person that has made the traffic routes in the city center that planned these works as well !!

You didn't read what I said, did you?

There is plenty of thought and common sense put into planning roadworks. A lot more effort is put into it than you appear to understand.

Every bit of roadworks cannot be done in the summer months, there has to be a reasonable spread over the year. They already lose a couple of months, as significant roadworks are not allowed at Christmas.

My employer promotes very flexible working and I know exactly how the system works thank you. I'm a Local Authority manager and when you get to my level, sometimes you have to put in long hours to get the job done.I normally arrive fairly late to avoid morning peak and leave fairly late to avoid evening peak.

I don't know why you bother posting. You have the most skewed sense of objectivity I have ever known for someone who is apparently in no way affiliated with Sheffield City Council. Every single post I've seen of yours has been in blind support of the council in whatever they do. I've seen you throw common sense completely out of the window at times in support of every single thing the council has ever done

Many of the posts I make explain the Council's position, because (surprisingly enough) no officers from the Council will post on here in their official capacity and, because of my current position, I am aware of the information and can ask the questions of the right people.

Many people on here moan from a position of very little understanding. What do you want, a forum where everyone agrees that things are less than optimal, but don't know why, or one where there is input from someone who has genuine knowledge of the issues?

But you don't have a 'genuine knowledge' of all the issues. You just reel off a load of pro-council spiel whether you're knowledgeable on the issue or not.

An a side note, it's unfortunate to see that Yorkshire Water have decided to subcontract to corrupt scumbags Balfour Beatty

I don't claim to know everything (no-one does), but, if there is something I don't know, I have a lot of contacts and can usually find out the information or put people in touch with the right person.

You may not like the information I give, but that does not mean that it isn't accurate.

You never did find out for me about the traffic lights in Middlewood - or the ones at Morrisons!

Remind me, what did you want to know? You'll need to give me precise locations.

The traffic lights on Middlewood road heading towards Oughtibridge outside the Bargain Booze (or some other alcohol shop). People heading towards Oughtibridge are forced to wait while the ones coming towards them go
