Looking after each other's dogs while on holiday

Recommended Posts

So I'm getting an italian greyhound in September and as we all probably know, the question 'what do i do when i go on holiday?' is one of the most worrying things. I know there are kennels and professional dog sitters...but did anyone ever think of looking after each others dogs? I take in your dog for a week/two weeks now and next year/next month you return the favour? I was wandering whether there are other IG owners (or small dog owners in general) that would consider such an arrangement. Do you think its a good idea?

I'd definitely consider an arrangement like that - I'd prefer my dog to go to the same person each time and also I'd prefer someone with specialist sighthound knowledge (I have a lurcher) which I could find in someone that also owned similar dogs. It'd also be good to have that sort of relationship with someone in case of emergencies too say you suddenly needed someone to dog sit for a night (you have to book home boarders ages in advance) I think.

Good luck with your IG, will you come back with pics pretty please :D

I met an IG out walking a few months ago, first time I'd ever seen one in person and I just couldn't get over how tiny and cute it was! Lovely dog :D

We should stay in touch then and somewhere later this year arrange a doggie meet up :)

I think this is a fantastic idea. We have a lurcher (charlie, from wadsley meet vw!) we would definatley be interested in this kind of holiday arrangement!

It would definitely be better for the dogs and spare us the stress of kennels and annoyed friends who don't really care for our dogs that much :) if we get more people involved we may even start a trend!

Barburka I arrange a sighthound meet up about once a month or so at Wadsley common, you're welcome to come along (you don't have to wait til you've got your IG, feel free to just come for a walk and meet the hounds!) - just look out for the thread appearing on here!

We are going on holiday in November. My mums coming with us or she would have had our dog. In laws won't have and only just let us know. We've never had to put him in kennels before don't know how he would cope. Hes normally laid on his bed in warm kitchen. I've found some people that look after them in their homes but they aren't taking new clients. Does any one know any good kennels where he will be ok? :-(

I offer a dog sitting service where I will attend your dog as many times as specified during the day, walk him, feed him, get him settled for the night, let him out in the morning etc, so that your dog can stay in his own home.

I am also happy to turn lights on and off, shut curtains etc, all part of the service, fully insured and professional, if you think that you might be interested take a look at my website on my signature to see if I work in your area, and give me a call :)
