New bus fares promotion from First on some Sheffield routes

Recommended Posts

Right, a recap. Here is a guide to your choice of tickets for travel in Sheffield from next week.

If you only travel with TM Travel:

TM Travel South Yorkshire YOYO

day ticket £3.95

Weekly ticket £13.00

If you only travel with First

First Day Sheffield £3.40* new reduced price - was £4.60

First Week Sheffield £11.00* new reduced price - was £18.50

First Week Sheffield student £7.00 new reduced price - was £12.00

If you only travel with Stagecoach

Sheffield Bus Only Dayrider £3.40*

Sheffield Bus & Tram Dayrider £3.90

Sheffield Bus Only Weekly Megarider £11.00*

Sheffield Bus & Tram Weekly Megarider £13.00

Sheffield Bus Only Weekly Student Megarider £7.00 new product

note with Stagecoach the Sheffield ticket zone also includes Dronfield, Eckington, Killamarsh and Spinkhill.

If you want a flexible ticket valid on any bus operator and tram

Citywide Day £4.30 new reduced price - was £5.00

Citywide Week £17.00 new product

And if you also want trains included

South Yorkshire Daytripper £6.30 (not valid on trains before 09:30hrs)

South Yorkshire Day Travelmaster £7.55

Weekly Sheffield Travelmaster £22.70

* tickets with an asterix are also valid on all Optio services (routes 42,44,52,120 and 123) regardless of operator

None of the above tickets are valid on nightbus services, a flat fare of £2.50 single applies to nightbus services.

So, if you previously paid for a First ticket you will now be paying less than before even if you buy the Citywide ticket valid on all operators. Also if you previously bought a Travelmaster and don't travel by train you will also be better off with the new Citywide tickets. If you currently buy a Stagecoach ticket there are no changes to the price but you get a slightly bigger network to use it on plus more evening and Sunday services!

They are changing weekly tickets again next week. I currently get the £11 weekly for a selected few first buses but does anyone know what they are changing too?

the change is the £11 First week will be valid on all First buses in Sheffield - basically they are reducing the £18.50 ticket to £11.

Well I say are - they have, this change has come in a week early.

That's a sweet price that £11 for a 7 day saver will be buying one of those beauties lol :)

Just looked at the new 30 timetable and noticed the service is now stopping at City Hall/Leopold Street, with a new service going to Dore.

While this will be a pain for those who do travel further than the city centre from the townships/Woodhouse/Handsworth areas, the overall timekeeping should improve. Even at quieter periods in the day, the bus didn't seem to be able to do the complete round trip within the timetable (evenings and weekends excluded).

The 30/30A/X30 will also be operated by TM Travel all day with route branded low floor minibuses.

So are they keeping the cheaper £1.20 fares on certain routes or scrapping them?

The first day sheffield is now £11 and valid on ALL first routes in sheffield as well as stagecoach buses on 120 and 52.

So does that mean that a precedent already exists for a First Weekly Pass to be used on other operators' buses on one of their routes? Maybe TMT could be persuaded on a similar course with the 70.

No. the 120 and 52 are optio routes and are the only case where that can take place. The evening tenders for example are based on the operating company NOT accepting day tickets from other operators. To change that would require all tenders to be re-submitted as it would matierally affect the revenue the company receives for that route, and therefore the viability of the tender.

Sadly many are not wheelchair accesible though despite being low floor.

The best promotion for busses would be to get them running on time.

I'm on the 30 route, which is the worst in the city for punctuality.

and the buses themselves are usually old wrecks.

Why? You now have a Citywide ticket that allows use of both operators, at a cost lower than a First Week used to be.

what this means is they could have made it 11 pound months ago and maybe not lost thousand to stagecoach
