Special Appeal - Oliver

Oliver is a very special little kitten that came into our care with his brothers and sisters, after being found outside when they were very tiny.

His brothers and sisters are now ready to find a new home, but little Oliver isn't.

Oliver's Story:

After a short while at the shelter, it soon became apparent that Oliver was different to his littermates, as he regularly chokes and gags on his food.

After several worried trips to the vets, it was discovered that Oliver has a serious heart murmur, which is a sound that is produced as a result of turbulent blood flow within his heart.

It was also decided that he should undergo further tests by a specialist Cardiologist.

Because Oliver was still only a small kitten around 9/10 weeks old, it was hard to see any small detail within the heart such as defects or abnormalities.

However, a large hole between the right and left side of his heart was discovered.

After xrays and further investigations, it was found that Oliver also has a severely enlarged heart, which could be constricting his oesophagus and causing him to choke.

At this point, it was decided that Oliver should be a 'Long Term Foster Cat' under the shelters care.

This is where a cat lives in a home, but the shelter still continues to pay for their treatment and veterinary bills.

Oliver now:

On veterinary advice, we will now wait until Oliver is a little older and bigger before his heart is retested again.

The vets do not know exactly what his prognosis is, but they think that his heart problems are unlikely to be treatable or fixable.

It is not known how long Oliver's life will be, but while ever Oliver is happy and free of pain, we will continue to pay for his treatment and care.

Oliver is now in a foster home with lots of company and kittens his age to play with. He is absolutely adored by his foster mum and dad.

So far, the shelter has spent almost £600 in vet bills caring for Oliver.

This appeal is to raise funds to help towards these costs, and for other cats like him, where the shelter continues to pay for their treatment, whatever the cost.

Any donations are truly and gratefully recieved!

Thank you,

From us and Oliver.

You can donate to the shelter by texting GUBC25, followed by the amount to 70070.

This little boy is so special, considering that when he first came, he was a hissing/spitting ball of fire, he is now so gentle, loving and a brilliant kitten all round. My (male) cats mother him so much. We all love him to pieces.

The scared little spitty cats usually turn out to be the most affectionate. I hope he has a long and healthy life, bless him x

He's a handsome, unlucky little fella. I already spend on fuel for transport runs but come payday on Friday I'll see what I can do..

And yes, the scared & hostile(afraid) ones end up the most loyal and affectionate - if you earn that from them.

Yeah he's great :). The vets arent sure if he will get to 6 months, they certainly dont expect him to have much of an adult life anyway. Such a shame.

Poor thing. At least he will have 6 happy months rather than the 6 months of hell he would've had if he'd not found the Cat Shelter
