gamezone07
I am about to buy a used car, in the 1'500 price range, just wondered what I should be looking at in terms of problems/issues with the car, I haven't anyone to look at it with me, so its just on here and the net. one guy did tell me to look out for water signs/settling in the oil, where the dipstick is.. danny128
in that price bracket i would advice to go to a car auction or private sale, as the dealer will be looking for £500 profit on each car he sales. if you are as dumb as you sound on cars i would get a freind to check the car over as there is a lot more to look out for the water in oil

watchcoll
you can pay someone from the RAC to come out and check it over for you. you'll have to google it for the cost
danny128
its over a £100 with RAC, if the car is crap then you will be wasting good money, found a few cars and get a mechcanic to go with you for half a day and check the few cars out, you will save in long run
fatrajah
Make sure that the engine management system warning light comes on when the key is turned initially & that it goes out within a few seconds of starting the engine. Engine management system problems can be very expensive to sort out.
Shogun
It all depends on what car you are thinking of buying, most cars have good and bad points or what they call stock faults, you just have to be careful not to buy the lemon, if you don't know much about cars its a good idea to take someone along who does, the price bracket you state is probably the price that you are most likely to get in trouble if you are not careful, don't be rushed in to buying take your time and think about it before you part with the cash there are loads of cars for sale.
