How often are teams changing kits now?

I don't think it was a rule but generally many teams changed every 2 years with the home and away kit in alternating years so there was 1 new kit each year. I think now that sales of replica shirts have gone down they are bringing as many out as often as possible to take advantage of people with kids who naturally want the latest kit(s) United brought a grey 3rd kit out the year before last that I don't think they ever played in. I've only seen kids wearing it!

Also clubs seem to change kit manufacturers more regularly now.

Couldn't agree any more with this thread, all us older timers out there will probably remember when Shirts were far cheaper and you got your monies worth as if you kept it in good nick it would be current for a few seasons!

Tony Currie sums the new shirts up well in a promotional video for United's much anticipated Away kit launch which is to go ahead some time in the near future, he says something along the lines of "Back in our day Shirts were made from a different kind of cloth unlike the one these days ours were comfy and were made for the sport, the modern shirts are uncomfortable especially after running around and sweating like you do in football, you need vaseline to help with the wear and tear of these modern shirts" Hardly selling them I know but true :hihi:

I wonder what the mark up actually is on the new shirts, personally I can't see the manufacturing costs being anything above £10 in fact it wouldn't surprise me if they were under £5 hence United's ability to drop them down to £10 season end and still make a profit. I wonder how much United make from the £40 full price mark up and Wednesday for that matter?

I buy the shirts I must admit but I don't appreciate the poor quality of them these days, they feel plastic like and as the great TC says they are uncomfortable!

Like been said they are a fashion accessory now, plus this year United are wearing numbers back & front, so it looks like we're always attacking. The thing that does annoy is how easily the stickers come off them though, very poorly done.

Got my lad the GB Olympics football shirt for 25 quid which wasn't too bad really, some places were charging 45 quid for a 9 year old's shirt which I find disgusting...
