bobgirlsnake
my darling tabitha has sneaked out of the house today and was gone for around an hour. she has not been spayed due to an health problem the vet advised we would be better off not getting her spayed as shes an house cat so not worth the risk. I'm now worried she may have mated while she was out (shes just come out of season) i know its possible she may not have but i worry about her. Do how long would it take to find out and roughly how much would an ultrasound cost??
Rainrescue
Don't wait to find out - get her taken straight away to the vets and have her neutered. There are so many unwanted kittens out there. I'm surprised your vet has advised to let her go through with the pregnancy - obviously he doesn't see the hundreds of unwanted kittens that we see every year? If only they did maybe they would advice more people to get their cats spayed and probably (god forbid) reduce the price. What will happen if she needs an emergency cesarian and has to be knocked out then - many cats do die giving birth, and even if yo didn't have her neutered - there is a morning after injection that can be given too isn't there? We picked another 5 kittens up that had been dumped unwanted in the dog pound today - hundreds of them out there that nobody wants. If you love her - I wouldn't put her through the birth. bobgirlsnake
I was advised against having her neutered due to an health problem she has it would increase the risk of complications and as she's a house cat it wasn't worth the risk. I came here for help not a lecture, I know about all the un wanted kittens and I didn't want to add to that which is why even though she's a house cat she was going to get neutered. midgecat
oh dear. there's always the risk that house cats will sneak out, especially when they're in season. might be an idea to contact your vet for advice. if she has a health problem pregnancy might not be good for her either. they can be neutered in early stages of pregnancy so it might be an idea to get in touch with your vet as soon as poss. bobgirlsnake
I will be taking her to the vets tomorrow as i cant get her in today. she had been out of season for around a week. she has a server heart murmur which is why she cant be neutered but at the same time is will not be safe for her to have kittens im going to ring again and ask about the injection. spats
A vet will be able to confirm if your cat is pregnant using an ultrasound from around 22 days into the pregnancy. If she is pregnant she may start to have an increased appetite & seem to appear much more affectionate. At three weeks her nipples will start to "pink". Try googling "how to tell if my cat is pregnant". Lots of useful websites listed. Also.. what health problem does your cat have? If it is a heart murmour, having an operation does not present the same risks these days because aneasthesia techniques have really come on in leaps & bounds now. Try speaking to perhaps a couple of Veterinary Practices to get a more rounded opinion & further advice.
bobgirlsnake
shes been to 3 different vets all have said the murmur is that bad she my not live past 3 which is bad enough for me to have found out. i obviously cant risk her getting pregnant so will be ringing round vets to try and get her the injection. spats
If she is pregnant, it sounds like a termination by injection could be the safest solution. There are different types of injection that will terminate an unwanted pregancy. And as with everything, there are risks involved with these too & possible side effects. So try googling for information on chemical termination for feline unwanted preganancy. It's always easier to go to your vet with as much pre knowledge as you can. Making decisions for your pet is very emotive & stressful. The more you understand, the easier it is for you to make the right choice for your pet. Fingers crossed for you. Squiggs
Advice and lectures are synonymous you know that It's not surprising really on this subject matter. Admittedly this case is the exception and is not the normal case of (couldn't)careless disregard or deliberate breeding for profit. If you (even knowing that it IS a problem) saw the number of vehicles that are running up and down the country daily with animals (the lucky ones) from rescues to foster, to permanent homes, saw just how rotating shelter doors were (literally, one out, one in) then you'd be surprised at the scale of it - I guarantee it - and understand why people can be a little unforgiving...such as on this forum where we have kits being up for sale within 6 months of someone getting a kitten - kittens breeding kittens, and when some people put so much time, effort and their own money into helping, it's like someone coming along and kicking your sandcastle in your face Fingers crossed this one did just go for a wander and didn't get caught...
