CompServs
I'm looking for a new tripod head (ideally Manfrotto as I've decided on a Manfrotto tripod) and have around £40-50 to spend. I do a lot of landscape and telephoto work so was looking at the 804RC2 3 way initially. I have however been offered a 391RC2 from a friend so am tempted to go with this - is the 804RC2 really far superior, are there any other benefits to it other than being heavy dutier with larger handles? Also more and more people seem to be going for ball heads such as the 496RC2 - I presume this is purely due to ease of use? I'm put off a ball head as you can't lock the vertical plane and pan around easily. Is there any reason I should be considering a ball head over a 3 way? rev43
I have the Manfrotto 804RC2 head paired with the Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod, I also have the 496RC2 Manfrotto head paired with the Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod and in my opinion the 804RC2 head is the better head, but of course that is only my opinion and others might prefer the 496RC2 head, if I were you I would go to Harrisons and have a look at both of them then decide which you prefer, according to the head instruction manuals and the Manfrotto website the load capacity for the 804RC2 head is 4kg (8.8 lbs) and the 49RC2 head the load capacity is 6kg (13.2 lbs) whatever you decide Manfrotto tripods/heads are very well made quality products. Firparnian
I use The 804 and like all manfrotto kit it is solidly engineered and is rock solid. I use it with a Canon5d MkII with battery grip and telephoto lens and it has never let me down.
