IsobelBooker
who are you insured with? We're not. We've just finished our GCSE's and are looking for a job for the summer
Strix
you really do need liability insurance to charge people to walk their dogs there are numerous threads on the subject here if a dog you're walking is involved in an incident with another dog/people/traffic, then somebody could sue you (not the dog owner), so you NEED insurance as a bare minimum
medusa
Moved to the pets group. Another thing for you to think about before landing yourself in potential problems. If you're pet sitting for someone while they're on holiday and they're burgled, are you insured in case you didn't lock something properly and so allowed the burglars in unwittingly? Are you CRB checked so that people who are about to trust you with the keys to their house have at least a little reassurance that they aren't about to kiss all their possessions goodbye? It's all very well wanting to do this for a short term, but the moment you start taking on clients for money, you are letting yourselves in for all sorts of liabilities as well as a tax bill. teeny
Our insurance will not cover you unless you are over 18 years old and thats the case for most public liability insurances for dog walking /pet sitting ! When we set up these were the 3 things we were told we needed : CRB checks , Insurance and checkable references which we have , we were advised this by the police as we would be holding keys and having access to homes. angel22
Unless you have insurance and a CRB check, nobody is going to give you keys to their house or access to their pets. Shame really but thats how society is these days. Nobody that doesn't already know you are going to be prepared to let you do this. Sorry.
picasso303
I can't comment on the insurance issues etc, but I do think you should be commended on your enterprising spirit, and trying hard to earn a living, especially being so young. Please don't be downspirited by the negative, (and I think quite harsh) replies to your thread. It does seem the way of Sheffield Forum. Keep thinking of other ideas, and good luck! Thanks, i mean were only doing it for fun, extra cash and something to focus on and we walk a few dogs for people already if we do carry on then we can get insurance but just for now its not too bad, at least we arent being anti-social like other teens. We wont be downspirited but i understand we need insurance (no one else needs to point that out again)
danamy
Its good that you are trying to work but you say not to talk about insurance again however Id strongly recommend that you stop walking other peoples dogs unless you have insurance as is something goes wrong well.... good luck without it There may have been a time you didn't need it and you could walk a dog for a few pennies but those times have changed
