wednesday1
A year ago he lost the referendum on the Lib Dems 'flagship' policy of electoral reform, now he has been defeated by 100 or so members of the Lib Dems coalition 'partners', threatening to vote with the opposition on House of Lords reform. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/jul/10/lords-reform-disarray-timetable-motion-withdrawn Will he ever realise he's been had! Mr Prime
Clegg must be biting back on his anger, AV and now the Lords lost. He has no choice but to hang on and hope he can get the lords sorted later. In reality, although a Labour supporter, they acted poorly and should have backed up Clegg. First because lords reform is right and secondly so they could show, for future reference that they are the natural partners of the Lib Dems since the next election is likely to throw up an inconclusive result. Crosser
To be fair to Nickyboy... He's only done what countless other politicians have done for ever. Make the best of it for himself & his cronies, then just disappear into the ether whilst some other news distraction has people looking the other way. Labour have done what any opposition would have done and on this topic now demonstrate that they are the only ones who can / will reform the HoL. I didn't see it but I understand Menzies Campbell was spitting feathers about Labour earlieron C4 news, why should Labour do anything to help these muppets who have destroyed their own party? Clegg should have had more realisitc goals on HoL reform, now he has messed up again.

They were intending to vote against reform of the house of Lords; that does not suggest that they are going to reform it. It does suggest that they care more about political point-scoring than what's actually good for the country.

Not really, doing what they have done is good politics due to the damage it does to the relationship between the Cons / Libs, breaking closer it's demise and the opportunity a Labour govt would have to enact real reform. If the Labour opposition had supported reform, we wouldn't need a Labour government to enact reform; it would have been done now. Ergo, point-scoring. Indeed, you openly admit that this was the idea; not only that, you actually seem to approve of it. I take that you, also, are more concerned with point scoring than with doing what's good for the country.
