Moving house in Sheffield..is this area good? (S9)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I currently live in city centre but am considering moving to a house in S9 - 20 minute walk away from Meadowhall station.

Any views on this area?

I'm living with my partner and his brother, 2 of us go to uni (sheff and hallam) and 1 travels to work by train.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything good/bad about this area please? I've only lived in Sheffield for a year so don't know anything about good/bad parts of Sheffield.

The house is just off Standon Road/Woodbury Road if that helps.

Thanks:)

Personally if you are at Uni stay near to Uni, the city centre or where the other students are (NOT S9).

It will soon get annoying having to catch a bus/train/taxi everytime you want to get home after lectures or a night out.

You'll probably be the only students there as well.

I think the road you are looking at is in Wincobank so have a look at other threads on this area if there are any. I don't know it well but it's reputation is neither particularly bad or particular good. You would need to speak to somebody who lives in the area for an accurate picture of what it's like to live there.

As GrannyGranny says, there are areas you could look at that are closer to the Uni's. Hillsborough and Walkley are decent areas and have better transport links to the Uni's.

There are other areas close to the Uni's that are considered dodgy though so I'd start threads or look for threads on an area if you see a property you want to view.

thanks for the replys everyone, - we don't really mind that there's not much student life there, we don't really go out partying every day or every week for that matter so that's not of concern...

mostly we're wondering if its got a bad reputation.. i've heard that s9 is considered "ghetto-ish"? :(

i just don't want to have to worry every time i walk down the street, especially at night.

also wondering about the racial distribution there..

Standon Rd and Woodbury Rd are fine.

My better half has lived in that exact area for a number of years and she has never had any problems.

I mean it's not Dore or Whirlow but it's safer than a lot of areas in the city, but it is a little quiet. Good access to Meadowhall station for access into town too.

Blimey what kind of students are you? :)

TBH I wouldn't live there as a student given the choice just for the fact thats its quite a way to go to Uni. The money you save on rent (if any) will be wiped out by your travel costs.

There are better areas closer to Uni or just stay in the city centre. Why the need to change?
