aelfheah
I used to have the great and free downloaded version but (maybe unwisely) decided to uninstall it, so I could try their free 'online' version, which doesn't require downloading into your PC's system. I used Revo Uninstaller but not using the deeper scan, so as to leave some traces that I thought I might still need. So now, presumably because my PC still has traces of that last install, whenever I try to re-install the first version (top) I get this error- http://s14.postimage.org/4kn1uoncx/sas.jpg And even Revo cannot find the traces of the previous installed version? How do I just get rid of all traces of both, and get around any errors in order to install the first version?
melthebell
use a registry cleaner that gets rid of orphan files (files that belong to none working / installed programs) ? crapcleaner has a registry option
waddler8
Use the appropriate Uninstaller Assistant (32-Bit or 64-bit) rather than any third party solution. http://www.superantispyware.com/supportfaqdisplay.html?faq=

waddler8
Developers tend to work on the presumption that if you are uninstalling their software, then you are doing so because you are upgrading to a newer version, or simply re-installing because you have a problem with your existing one. Some folders, files & registry entries are left untouched so you don't lose any custom preferences and/or settings/modifications you've made. Just about all software does it - not just Norton. With Security software it has to root itself so deep in the OS (kernel level drivers etc) to protect the system against malware (as malware itself is becoming so deep rooted), that the standard uninstallation tool isn't enough if you want a complete removal to install something else. Hence most now supply a complete removal tool as well as the standard uninstaller. http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146
aelfheah
Ok, I've tried scanning my PC several times with the online version of SAS, no threats. I have tried that SAS uninstall link many times, and just now, then rebooted. Same error as above in that link image. There's no trace of SAS in Revo or 'add or remove programs'? I've also many times before, and now, tried [up to date] Ccleaner registry and cookie scans, which found many 'errors', cleaned them and I still get this SAS problem? http://s14.postimage.org/4kn1uoncx/sas.jpg
waddler8
You've run the uninstallation tool? Try deleting the installation file you are using and download it again. Reboot & then try reinstalling. http://downloads.superantispyware.com/downloads/SAS_FREE.EXE
aelfheah
Yes, ran it, just deleted the previous SAS file, downloaded yours. BUT, it runs as far as the second 'starting services' bar when installing, then the familiar error...again! Grrr
