Lab-rat
Is 'fashion' & the throw away society causing our freak weather through carbon emissions in getting the said goods from the far east? (massive container ships that have to circumnavigate 3/4 of the globe) People don't buy goods that have longevity any more & that seems to be a fact! Just a thought that crossed my mind over the last few week with all this lousy weather & flash flooding! What's your thoughts people?

anywebsite
I'm still hoping that in 20 years time it'll be like the south of France in Yorkshire if we keep up with Global Warming, like Christa Ackroyd promised on Look North.
HeadingNorth
Surely if they're navigating 3/4 of the world they're going the wrong way? The distance they have to travel is equal to more than half the earth's circumference, due to continents getting in the way. They don't literally travel 3/4 of the way around, though; at least, I don't think they do. As for the OP's question; any single freak weather event can't be pinned to the global climate change; we've always had freak weather events every now and then. The changes in climate are causing us, here in Britain, to have them more often; but for all anyone can tell, this is one we would have had anyway. Although global temperature averages are rising, the location of Britain right on the edge of the jet streams means that our climate could vary wildly in all sorts of directions; to take but one example, if global warming caused the Arctic to melt more rapidly, icebergs could disrupt the Gulf Stream and our winters could end up being as bad as those in Canada, very much less warm than they are now! MrSmith
What on earth is a 'throw away society'? The throw-away society is a human society strongly influenced by consumerism. The term describes a critical view of over-consumption and excessive production of short-lived or disposable items. You buy something and before it breaks you dump it and buy something better, or if it breaks you dump it and buy a new one instead of having it fixed.
