£36k+ per year in rent for a market stall, RIP Sheffield market

Recommended Posts

SCC are people who couldn't get jobs in the private sector.

They're clearly not as clever as Robert Maxwell, Nick Leeson, Fred Goodwin, Bernard Madoff, et al.

Or the other 7 billion people in the world.

Did Maxwell, Leeson, Goodwin or Madoff sell Sheffield airport for £1 or spend millions on the World Students Games, a vanity project that no one had heard of before nor since?

If the council have and do such a poor job in Sheffield why do they keep getting reelected?

Are Sheffield people so set in their ways that better the devil they know? Then complain how bad a job they do?

Beats me.

We've probably become used to not expecting much and are not surprised when the council invariably fail.

They keep getting reelected because people voted for them in about 1910 and now their descendants are too set in their ways to do anything else.

People have very short memories!

The Labour Party did not take control of Sheffield until about 1926 and in 1968/69 the Conservative Party took control. Who could forget that the Liberals were in power between 1999-2002 and again from 2008-2010.

No matter who you vote for the council get in!

One of the wisest things I've read on Sheffield forum. People will always moan no matter what. I'm always amazed just how many of lifes woes people on here blame the Council for.

So apart from a few years, the most money has been wasted by the same political party? More recently by even the same leaders?

Did you know that the council gave the contract to Kier then changed to Kirkland to build the market with NO penalty clause in place for not meeting a deadline? They then spent a further £250,000 on top of the tendered price?

These same old leaders can cut a front line service, but find 1/4 million pounds for a contractor that they have already paid to do a job!

Sunday rant over! ?

£36 grand + is a lot of money.

Market forces? Simples ! The rent gets hiked. The stall holder increases his or her prices. Result;we can't buy Jack. The stall holders goes out of business. The market closes. The building eventually stands empty(who will take up the empty spaces).

Knock on affect.

Some dodgy bald headed gezzer tries to sell you empty TV cartons on the car park of B&Q. So it goes.Hey ho.

Who else is to blame for a council operated market that has had empty units since it opened and has businesses quitting rent-free stalls after less than six months?
