Locally, Fife Street (under the railway bridges) and Ecclesfield Road (Bellhouse Road/Grange Lane junction) were flooded by about 8.30 this morning. Ecclesfield Road all along the wood bottom also heavily waterlogged and manholes being breached.

Have heard Rivelin is bad in parts. How's Chesterfield Road at Heeley? Have to go that way later and sometimes it gets crazy under the bridge.

Two bands of very heavy rain are expect to hit Sheffield, the first is expected any time over the lunch period and large accumulations are expected with Sheffield taking the brunt of it. Flood alerts have been issued currently at amber level however the E.A have great fears at the minute as the drains and land in and around the city are already saturated from the recent rain therefore are not really equipped for the 4 inch of rain expected.

 

All Sheffield rivers are currently on alert and should it come in as expect later flash flooding might be a possibility in various locations around the city as well which could cause travel disruption anywhere basically.

 

The current met office status is "be prepared".

Yorkshire Water is currently well underway with a massive operation across the region to minimise the impact of the heavy rain and help those people who have suffered from flooding.

 

A huge amount of preparation has taken place to ensure the company and its water and waste water facilities are as ready as possible for the heavy rain, with the company liaising closely with all the other relevant authorities and emergency services to align efforts.

 

With up to 50mm of rain forecast in some parts of the region today, there will be no let-up in Yorkshire Water’s efforts to minimise the impact of the rain and ensure customers are receiving the help and support they require.

I went under Heeley Bridge yesterday and it looked like the drains had been cleaned out, maybe in preparation for today's deluge?

It is notorious for flooding there!!

I think so too, at that time I lived on Holme Lane in Hillsborough and nearly got flooded. Now I'm up in Walkley but after seeing the state of South Road I fear for anyone living in the valleys. Saying that our house is on a very steep slope and I may be joining them soon:(

Its starting to flood under the bridge at Chapeltown. Currently passable with care but its one way traffic as a manhole cover has lifted outside Steadfast garage. Council were there as I drove past so hopefully they can sort that out.
