Sheffield based singer/songwriter Pete David has been performing around the city for several years. During the last couple of years the full band line up took shape, and as the line up has slimmed down to a three piece, so too did the name to simply The Payroll Union. The band combine elements of traditional American folk and country with all the yodellin’, stompin’, parpin’, pickin’ and pluckin’ you could want for an old time good time. Recent EPs ‘Underfed & Underpaid’ and ‘Your Obedient Servant’ brought wide acclaim, and a full length album is expected later in the year.

“The Payroll Union are all suited and bearded and, while playing their acoustic murder ballads, could be seen as a bunch of Southern, God-fearin’, gun-totin’ brothers. The songs are peppered with exhortations to the Lord, whisky, hanging, heartbreak and evil deeds. Pete’s vocal delivery veers from hushed whispers to impassioned sermons and, similarly, the music changes on a dime from reverential faithfolk to uptempo secular hoedown and back again.” Counterfeit Magazine

“For the uninitiated, Pete David and the Payroll Union are hands-down one of the most exciting bands we’ve seen in ages, and this EP commits that brilliance to disc.” Toast Magazine

***THE ADMINISTRATORS***

Conceived by guitar player and songwriter Ben Hall and reclusive banjo picker Marv O’Riley – two survivors of the Loudmouth Soup implosion, come The Administrators. Having opened for Glasgow folk troubadour Alasdair Roberts as well as the likes of Frontier Ruckus, James Yorkston, Peter Bruntnell, the Handsome Family and many others, Ben has an undeniable talent of seeing his favourite artists for free. Late as always, slightly worse for wear, fuelled to the eyeballs on bluegrass, skiffle and all things weird and old, The Administrators are stirring and intend to have you drinking and brawling in the hay by sunset.

Described as playing dark and brooding country folk, singer/songwriter Tom Baxendale recently returned to Sheffield after several years living and playing in London. His track Her Ghost was featured on the Devil’s Ruin Records compilation ‘The Best Of Dark Roots Music’.
