Planner1
According to crash map there have been 9 there since 2005. Am I not reading it correctly? 9 where? The map shows three categories of casualty, slight, serious and fatal. There is a key. The poster I was responding to said there had been a number of fatals. I can't see any on that road. There have been three serious (broken bones, hospitalisation) since 2005, in the length between Barrow Rd and Roman Ridge Rd but only two in past five years. As I said the Council will only look at the past three or five year's casualty record.

Still a bloody dangerous bit of road though, particularly outbound
alchresearch
Petition signed, but we should not have to be doing this with the amount of crashes on that stretch of road it must have been obvious to the highways or whoever that one day one of the accidents was going to be fatal. Look how long its taken them to do something over at Todwick.

They just don't want to spend the money until its too late and they have to act, If this was an isolated incident then it would just be sad but this could have been prevented when the medical center was built, they could have found the money for the crossing then. Just how would the Council be able to predict a very unusual collision like this one? It's not about not wanting to spend the money, it's the fact that there simply isn't enough money to do everything you would like to do, so there has to be prioritisation. What would you rather they did? Treat sites with known injury collision problems, or those were there isn't a problem now, but there might possibly in someone's opinion be a problem at some time in the future? There isn't enough money to do all of them. What actually happens is that road safety improvements are done on a South Yorkshire partnership basis. They look at the sites across the county which have the worst injury records and treat them on a worst first basis. That's how to get the best possible results with the limited amount of money available.
Planner1
Look how long its taken them to do something over at Todwick. Building the business case to bid for millions of pounds of government money takes a lot of time and effort. Having a change of government mid way through the process didn't help, especially when they effectively froze all major scheme funding.

In fact they find cash for Anything to slow down traffic as much as possible and make sheffield a no go zone for motorists.

Nothing like a bit of gross exaggeration to stimulate the debate eh? Traffic calming schemes are usually put in to slow drivers down in order to reduce casualty levels, which is exactly what people on this thread are wanting. It's a well proven method. It works. There are no more traffic calming schemes in Sheffield than in other similar cities. The trend is for lower speeds. There is a national campaign, which appears to be growing in popularity, for 20mph speed limits in all residential areas.

alchresearch
I'm in favour if it doesn't mean "pinch points" or speed bumps.
