Petition - Provide Safe pedestrian access between Wincobank & Meadowhall

Recommended Posts

On the 4th July 2012 a Wincobank resident on her way to work at Meadowhall was struck by a speeding car on Tyler Street. The driver lost control, crossed the carriageway, mounted the kerb and knocked the pedestrian down the railway embankment. It took the emergency services 30 minutes to get her back up the banking. We are petitioning the council for further road safety improvements along Tyler Street and Barrow Road. These should include speed reduction measures, upgrading the double yellow lines to double red lines; barriers to stop vehicles mounting the pavement in the vicinity of the transport interchange entrance; fencing along the railway embankment; zebra crossing on Barrow Road at the junction with Tyler Street; changes in the sequencing of the traffic lights to allow pedestrians time to cross safely. Since Meadowhall was opened over 20 years ago Wincobank residents have had to negotiate very difficult conditions getting to and from the Centre. This must change.

Just signed it, its a shame we had to wait for an accident like this to happen though. My thoughts also go out to the lady's friends and family. Lets hope something can be sorted out in her memory so no one has to join her x

Was a close family friend of mine so would mean alot if as many people could sign this

I'm so very very sad for your loss. I hope over time you & all the family can come to terms with it somehow. The floral tributes are beautiful & its plain to see that she was a huge part of a lot of people's life.

Heartfelt wishes. XX
