jofo80 Â Â 10 #1 Posted June 26, 2012 Hi there! Â I'm trying to recreate some South American cooking. Â Does anyone know any supermarkets/speciality markets where I can find plantains and yucca in Sheffield? maybe a caribbean minimarket? Â Thanks! anywebsite   10 #2 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Tesco & lots of other places sell plantain. If you go to Spital Hill they'll have it in Tesco, or the smaller supermarket up the road. There's a Carribean food stall in Castle Market, downstairs. I think I've only seen yucca sold as a plant. jofo80 Â Â 10 #3 Posted June 26, 2012 Cheers for that, yucca is a root, long with brown rough skin and a tough white inner. Also called cassava more commonly here I think and manioc or manioca
 Share this content via...
anywebsite   10 #4 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Yeah, you can buy that in the big Tesco on Spital Hill too, I think cassava is a more common name here. Emin, further up Spital Hill should have it too, if you prefer a mini-market, http://goo.gl/maps/gcvp Edited June 27, 2012 by anywebsite
 Share this content via...

bestford   10 #6 Posted June 27, 2012 Try Morrisons. The one in Hillsborough is stocking a lot more "exotic" fruit and veg since they had a re-vamp
 Share this content via...

Farslad   10 #10 Posted June 27, 2012 Couple of places on Spittal Hill and Tescos round there catering to the local demographic.  Asda is a joke of a supermarket. It's like going shopping in 1974.
 Share this content via...
