Lockstockfro   10 #1 Posted June 24, 2012 Hi there, Relocating from Nottingham to Sheffield, really looking for: - good primary and secondary schools that can deal with both academic and special needs children - easy commute into the city centre - close to some "real" countryside (not just a local park) - safe, low crime area - good transport links to rail and motorways  Using the web we have identified Dore as a good candidate and King Ecgberts secondary and Dore primary schools.  Would really welcome some general advice on what the schools/area is like and whether it would fit what we are looking for before we drag the kids up for a look round (they are getting sick of looking at houses!).  Incidentally where does Dore end and Totley begin? I notice estate agents seem to badge everything as Totley, does this matter or is it the usual estate agent deviousness  All help and advice very gratefully received  Mark
 Share this content via...
Tomataheeed   10 #2 Posted June 24, 2012 both are nice to be honest. Dore is more expensive, but Totley primary is a better school at the moment. Both are good though.
 Share this content via...
MZ2832 Â Â 10 #3 Posted June 24, 2012 Friends of ours moved and could get one child into Dore primary but not the second. Had to go to appeal in the end. They like the school for their kids. Â Friend teaches at Totley and, as previous post says, it's known for being a good school. Â I wouldn't rule out Ecclesall - good schools, edge of countryside, good transport links into the centre with frequent buses. Also buses out to Derbyshire. Fairly close to Dore/Totley station. chem1st   10 #4 Posted June 24, 2012 With regards to the rail link.  Dore and Totley station is close to Totley and Bradway, Dore is a bit further out. If you want it in walking distance, then you might as well rule Dore out.  Cheaper by train into Sheffield than by bus on that service, off peak day return for example is £2.10. To Manchester it is a lot more expensive, IRO £20.
 Share this content via...
GrannyGranny   10 #5 Posted June 26, 2012 Most of SW Sheffield is nice and is only 10 mins into the Peaks.  Dependent on budget there's also Millhouses, Whirlow, Ecclesall, Greystones, Broomhill, Bents Green & Crosspool.  I've lived in Greystones and Millhouses and sent my kids to catholic School in Millhouses. Most good schools in this area are oversubscribed and therefore hard to get into mid term. You will just have to contact the LEA or school direct to enquire re. places.  Whats your budget BTW? clarkettly   10 #6 Posted June 26, 2012 Totley/Dore border is the Old Hay Brook (runs under Baslow Road by the Methodist Church, Grove Road). Totley Brook Road is not in Totley but Dore it's misnamed- I guess by rights should be Old Hay Brook Road.
 Share this content via...
