Sheffield Shamblers Walking Group - Alport Castles - Sunday 24th June

Recommended Posts

NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME

Description

This is a 9.3 mile walk taking us 4.5 hours plus stoppages. This walk is classed as a moderate to hard walk with three hard climbs along forest track and through moorland.

It starts from Fairholmes car park at Derwent, and climbs away from the reservoir through woodland to Rowlee Pasture and the high ridge above Derwent Valley. Needless to say that the views in all directions are stunning.

We then soon reach Alport Castles before returning back down to the Derwent Valley and alongside the reservoir back to the start. The terrain is on rough and moorland tracks and paths, good paths and woodland.

I seem to remember it was a steep descent off the castle.
