Village Owl   10 #1 Posted June 17, 2012 NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME  Description  This is a 9.3 mile walk taking us 4.5 hours plus stoppages. This walk is classed as a moderate to hard walk with three hard climbs along forest track and through moorland.  It starts from Fairholmes car park at Derwent, and climbs away from the reservoir through woodland to Rowlee Pasture and the high ridge above Derwent Valley. Needless to say that the views in all directions are stunning.  We then soon reach Alport Castles before returning back down to the Derwent Valley and alongside the reservoir back to the start. The terrain is on rough and moorland tracks and paths, good paths and woodland.  Details  Start time: 10:00am (to tie in with bus times)  Meeting point: Fairholmes pay and display car park, Derwent, by the refreshment stand.  Map Reference: SK172893  Parking: Fairholmes pay and display car park, or free parking in the bays on the approach road to the car park  Refreshments and Toilets: Toilets and refreshment kiosk in the car park at Firholmes, also the Ladybower Inn after the walk.  Public transport: Bus 272 leaves Sheffield Interchange at 9:00am arriving at Fairholmes at 9:32am. Hippiechick  Additional information: Anyone who is able to offer lifts, could they put this in their post, passengers please note that the driver may wish to join the rest of the group for a drink after the walk, so please bear this mind, thanks  Please read our:  Shamblers Organisation Terms and Conditions
 Share this content via...
