Complications after spaying

Recommended Posts

My lurcher had a terrible time of it after being spayed, she was in a lot of pain and had trouble pooping as it was causing her so much pain. She was very quiet too, it took her a good few weeks to recover fully :(

If you're at all worried call your vets for advice, we called our vets emergency line on a sunday and got an appointment within the hour, no consult fee. It was worth it as they gave her a shot which was the same shot they give them before the op itself, to knock her out slightly, and also some extra metacam to help ease the pain. It really helped her.

My dog was 'off' for a few weeks after being spayed. She went right off her food (very unusual for her) and seemed really sad all the time. Didn't want to play and just generally wasn't herself. Turns out this was due to a phantom pregnancy. Apparently it's quite common after being spayed due to the homones being all over the place.

Won't your dog be due at the vets for a check up soon anyway??
