Council gardeners

Recommended Posts

Have the council's gardeners gone on a go slow. I live in s13 and the grass verges are growing wild . On our street some are as high as 18" and it makes the city look a mess . Trees are overgrowing and in desperate need of trimming back.

There is a council base on the Stradbroke estate and they used to keep the verges looking neat ,but now they are well overgrown .Is it another council cutback

Yes it is!

The maintenance teams have been reorganised yet again after the latest cutbacks, and are just starting to get to grips with the problem.I volunteer with Friends of High Hazels Park, and over the last year we have done far more maintenance in the park than the regular gardeners. We are grateful to Carillion plc for sending us regular volunteers,we would really struggle without them.We are meeting the relevant council people soon to plan the way forward, but it will be difficult given their lack of resources.

The Parks and Countryside department is being inundated with complaints.

My office is near Furnival roundabout; three weeks ago a worker arrived and spent an entire day - well, okay, from 10 AM til about 5 PM excluding an hour or so when he vanished for lunch - mowing the grass on the roundabout.

Note: that's not the entire roundabout, it's a section about four times the width of the mower around the edge of the roundabout, the middle is left to run wild.

He then returned last week and did it all again.

So it sounds like a total lack of planning and efficiency as normal.

Having been employed by the council for the last 32 years, the cutbacks are the reason for lack of quality. The depot on Stradbroke Way is Sheffield Homes staff who maintain open spaces and the grass surrounding flats and bungalows, the grass verges are maintained by streetforce, and them lads are shortstaffed aswell. Some stories would make your hair curl!

Noticed today that the grass verges around longley shopping centre had been cut and once again the cuttings have been left all over the pavements for people to trail home,Wonder what would be said if any tenant or home owner were to cut their grass and leave the debris all over the pavements.

Jesus wept, people are never happy, at least the grass got cut, do you expect them to sweep the path clean and wash it after - all over Sheffield? get real.
