Williamson Hardware in Broomhill threatened

Recommended Posts

Bitterly ironic that the news breaks on here that a bookshop is closing on the day the supermarkets are swamped with the new J.K Rowling.

The bookshop has gone downhill rapidly since they closed the mapping and travel guides section upstairs.

That was the unique feature about that Blackwell's store, and the main reason I went out of the way to shop there.

the decision to close the upstairs resulted in 2 staff losing their jobs perhaps if people had shopped local this would not have happened the shop still stocks travel it was just the specialist mapping dept which moved.

which ever way you look at this the staff knew they were going to be closing sometime before nov 2013 ( a letting board outside was a give away) however it was a cruel thoughtless thing to post that williamsons were going to be moving into the unit, don't forget that there has been no announcement that the shop is closing , what a way for the staff to find out that they were going to loose their jobs before xmas. thank you ironmonger

Blackwells are not neccessarily closing, they could also relocate, which if profitable I would expect to be the case. If they are to close it would be another loss to Broomhill, but you cannot blame Ironmonger or Williamsons for the way you found out, Blackwells must be aware and should have kept colleagues informed.

On the subject, has Rhythm And Booze closed down in Broomhill?

Would anyone from broomhill like to see this shop reopen as an independant off licence?

Wrong spelling of broomhill

I don't think anyone in Broomhall would care, it's a bit far for them isn't it :)

What chance would it stand against the numerous supermarkets that have taken a foothold in Broomhill?

A good chance, but they would have to compete with the 24hr shop rather than the supermarkets as they do a much better cheaper range of booze than all 3 of the supermarkets.

What annoys me is we have 3 substandard supermarkets up in Broomhill. They need to shut coop and one of the others and make one large store that has everything but I suppose parking would then be an issue

I was thinking of opening the off licence which i think i can beat the big stores prices and stay open till late depending on if i got the licence approved.

Yeah, Broomhill is facing allot of changes. Like the rooftop car park, They used to have a very rare lift which has been broken for about 6 months, howerver they sadly modernised it into a mindless design which is pushing its look to withstand another 5 years! (it even broke down on my second ride in it) I wish this didnt happen to a rare piece of English engineering. Wiliamsons should not go as they are a brilliant shop.:mad::mad:
