hillsbro   28 #3 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) Hi Big Aldee - Haere mai!...Skelton's factory was in the Heeley district, and there are some photos on the picturesheffield.com site. This one shows the factory after a serious fire in 1921. .The factory was rebuilt after the fire and the firm is listed in directories of 1942 and 1954 that I have, but not in one dated 1968. The firm closed shortly before 1968 according to information on this web page..  Skelton's trade marks are shown on this scan from the 1954 directory. . dbad86   0 #4 Posted August 9, 2019 Hi, i see this is an old topic but in hopes someone will reply.  Im from South Africa  After my fathers passing i came across 2 shovels and a fork in the shed. 1 Shovel and the fork is branded C.T. Skelton & Co but the other one is branded Brades & Skelton. Why did these tools have different brands? Also what year would they be?,  as the wood handles looks like new. ( Oh and all three of them have the old style T handles)
 Share this content via...

hillsbro   28 #6 Posted August 10, 2019 The Kelly's directories for 1963 and 1965 show Brades, Skelton & Tyzack Ltd. at Sheaf Bank Works, Heeley, but by 1970 they are no longer listed. C.T. Skelton & Co was evidently founded in the 19th century by Sir Charles Skelton. The "Sheffield and District Who's Who" for 1905 gives some biographical information on him; here is a link to a scan. https://i.postimg.cc/gJwQ6H0W/Skelton.jpg
 Share this content via...
