Me and the missus went to London last month and thought it was great, it's expensive to travel around though £9 for 2 stops on the tube, and the beer is rubbish, but we did get to talk to Russell Grant in maccy dee's.

How much? Yesterday I bought a day tricket across all travel zones for about £8.50

The best pint was found coming home at st pancres a wine bar called Des Vins, old speckled hen gorgeous a proper head, £4 though but worth it.

The Anchor Tap in a Sam Smiths pub in the shopping centre on the South bank to the left of Tower Bridge as you head south. Great beer

EDIT

Without wanting to sound prejudiced I saw a lot of gangs of Eastern Euopeans floating around so I was constantly on the alert and kept my hands in mypockets most of the time when near people. The Olympics can bring out the best and worst in people.

Love the place. I only wish I could afford to buy a flat to live there for a few months in the summer
I used to love the place when I was in the navy. I'd go up from Pompey any time the ship was in port. Go watch the Arsenal at Highbury before the club became a district of France, then over to Ronny Scotts jazz club for some of the coolest sax in Britain. I loved Montreal when I moved there, and still do. I have the pick of NYC and Boston, both equal in distance from me, and both a lot of fun. I spent some time in the bay area of San Francisco, and could very easily live there if I could afford it. But I think the best of all of them is good old New York. I don't care about Times Square or Broadway, I go where the real Newyorkers go, the Bronx, Yonkers, Queens.

Hmmm.....not sure that the town centre's of Sheffield & London are all that comparable really. For one thing I would ask what you are defining as central London? Would it include Camden market for instance? Would it include very much south of the river? Even in the centre of London one or two places that are a tad risky.

And I don't think that the suburbs should ever be discounted when runnning the rule over a city. Take somewhere like Manchester. The city centre there is great but I really don't like the areas just outside of the city centre. It all counts.

Indeed Sheff and London are 2 totally different places, I do not understand how anyone can describe Sheffield as a real city? It's far too sleepy and small to even be called a town.

As for boundaries everything inside the M25 is London to me, not sure of the official boundaries but it all contributes to the metropolitan borough of London.

I think that applies to a lot of politicians as well.:)

Yes but he's working on the assumption that everyone in London was born and bred there which isn't the case so to remark on there supposed dislike of everything outside the region is utter nonsense.
