Tuesday 10th July 2012

8.00pm (doors 7.30pm)

Nashville legend and critically acclaimed alt-country pioneer, Jason Ringenberg returns for a solo concert at The Greystones on Tuesday July 10th 2012.

An outstanding evening of acoustic music from one of the most significant careers in American roots music, delivered by one of its most influential artists.

Jason Ringenberg was born and raised on an Illinois hog farm that bordered the Rock Island Line Railroad. He left for Nashville July 4 1981 to pursue his dream of “making a band that could kick American roots music into the modern age!” Little did he know just how far the kick would travel.

He immediately formed Jason and the Scorchers and never looked back. Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s they tore up venues across the planet and became known as one of the most exciting live bands in music. On classic LPs like Fervor and Lost and Found they “singlehandedly rewrote the history of rock ‘n’roll in the South”. -Rolling Stone

Their instinctive ability to combine traditional country music with high energy punk rock has not been surpassed to this day. In 2008 they were awarded the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance. There is an exhibit of them in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

But Ringenberg’s story does not stop there. In 1999 the “Godfather of Americana” (Mojo) decided to go solo. He has released five solo cds where his songwriting has been lauded by everyone from the BBC to USA TODAY. Touring the world relentlessly, The Times (UK) called him “one of the most exciting performers of his generation”.

So don’t go to his shows expecting to see a sensitive singer-songwriter sitting on a stool. With his acoustic guitar and fearless charisma he will rock the house.

Last year's show was absolutely fantastic! Get you tickets now before they're gone!

“Nashville royalty… A true gentleman of alt-country and an unparalleled live performer.” (Exposed Magazine)

“Ringenberg has gained the reputation as one of the most dynamic live performers of his generation!” (The Times)

“Ringenberg is a songwriter of genuine range and lyrical bite… Melodic, musically rich and aching with passion for the land of his childhood, his songs are on a par with anything the Americana genre has produced…” (Chris White, BBC Online)

Tickets are £10 adv

Press Release for the Jason Ringenberg and Farmer Jason shows

SEEING DOUBLE – THE TWO FACES OF JASON RINGENBERG

When Sheffield’s Illinois cousin, alt-country pioneer Jason Ringenberg, plays in the city this July, he will be wearing two very different cowboy hats…

Ringenberg - who was born and raised in Sheffield, Illinois, USA - will be playing both solo and as his ‘twin brother’, Emmy Award-winning children’s entertainer Farmer Jason.

Farmer Jason will play his first ever Sheffield concert at The Greystones on Tuesday 10th July. The venue is well-known for its outstanding music programme as well as its many community and kids’ events. This unique after-school concert promises to be something very special.

Ringenberg created his alter-ego in 2002 to educate and entertain children about farm life and the wonders of nature. The character is based on his own farming background and love of the great outdoors. Farmer Jason has released three award-winning albums and a DVD. His It’s a Farmer Jason videos, which air on several public broadcasting stations around the United States, won him an Emmy Award in 2009, plus an Emmy nomination in 2010.

With just his acoustic guitar (no backing track gimmickry), Farmer Jason’s shows are spontaneous and full of energy. Although aimed at children ages 2 to 8, everyone is invited to get involved, and they do! With songs like ‘The Tractor Goes Chug Chug Chug’, ‘Guitar Pickin’ Chicken’, ‘Punk Rock Skunk’ there is nothing you can do but holler and dance along.

Later the same day, Jason Ringenberg will take to the same stage for a solo show following his outstanding performance at the venue last year.

A pioneer of the modern Americana scene, Ringenberg left his Sheffield home for Nashville on July 4 1981 to pursue his dream of “making a band that could kick American roots music into the modern age!” Little did he know just how far the kick would travel.

He immediately formed Jason and the Scorchers and never looked back. Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s they tore up venues across the planet and became known as one of the most exciting live bands in music. On classic LPs like Fervor and Lost and Found they “singlehandedly rewrote the history of rock ‘n’roll in the South” (Rolling Stone Magazine).

Their instinctive ability to combine traditional country music with high energy punk rock has not been surpassed to this day. There is an exhibit of them in the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2008 they were awarded the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance, and they released a career-defining album Halcyon Times in 2010.

But Ringenberg’s story does not stop there. In 1999 the “Godfather of Americana” (Mojo) decided to go solo. He has released five solo albums and his songwriting has been lauded by everyone from the BBC to USA TODAY. Touring the world relentlessly, The Times called him “one of the most exciting performers of his generation”.

Jason Ringenberg in concert is not a sensitive singer-songwriter sitting on a stool... with his acoustic guitar and fearless charisma, and a catalogue of outstanding solo songs and Scorchers classics, he rocks the house.
