Cremation/Funeral Costs

Recommended Posts

My father passed away last week, my mom is having to apply for benefits. Dad used to have benefits for her, so she may get social fund help. Does anyone know how much cremation costs? We wouldn't need a car to follow the hearse, no flowers, basic coffin, basic everything pretty much.

Sad to say we can't afford it :/

We've been thinking of John Fairhursts or Peace Funerals (not knowing much about the latter).

Sorry to hear of your loss alisonmanic. I'm sure whatever you choose for your father the love you had for him will be more important than a teak coffin and drawn carriages :)

We used John Heath for my grandmother's recent funeral and I have to say they were fantastic.

Sorry for your loss Alison...

Another recommendation for Heaths, from Doublewood, who also sends his condolences. He says "Heaths dealt with my father's funeral a couple of years ago, and they were good, and efficient with no pressure and little fuss."

Simpsons on FitzWalter Road directed a number of my own family's funerals. They were very good, too.

Don't forget to insist on the basic funeral, whichever Director you use, if your dad wanted no-frills. They are obliged by law to provide a basic funeral if asked.

Most recommendations will tell you to go with an independent funeral director, as their costs are cheaper than those at "national" concerns.

also a couple of quick tips:- look on here to check that you've ticked all the boxes in regard of what needs doing.

Looking at the DWP website, it appears that your mum is entitled to a funeral payment which may well cover the costs. I don't know if you're aware of all the information, its here: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/technical-guidance/sb16-a-guide-to-the-social/funeral-payments/#fpcover

Firstly, many condolensces on your sad loss.

Coincidentally, I can answer your question quite accurately as only this week, my parents-in-law have made arrangements with Peace Funerals to pre-pay for theirs, and the quote they were given was approx £2200 each. Just basic stuff as you were asking about. They'd looked at various places and they were the cheapest (as well as being their most local as well). Peace do actually have a good reputation

I don't know about prices but Peace Funerals were used for my Father-in-law last November. Everything went smoothly and the family member who sorted the funeral were happy with their service

That i knew about, mom has no benefits right now except a claim in. Not sure if that affects it or not, may have to phone and check.

Peace are the only ones with prices on their site that I could see. Maybe worth a call around to get some quotes and if they do installments. Just in cases we can't get anything for the above.

Thank you all.

I used Peace Funerals for my mums, earlier this year as she wanted an Eco Burial which they do,

I definately recommend them, they were very professional and helpful, the funeral although a sad occasion went very well.
