meister   10 #37 Posted May 6, 2012 Bakewell railway station is probably the easiest if you want to follow road signs but is at the opposite end from the tunnels - about 3 miles from the nearest one.  thanks for that we took your advice and have done it today, stunning ride with stunning scenery just need to take a picnic the next time
 Share this content via...

Parsley Hay is probably best if coming from most parts of the Sheffield area.  Check out this website for all the details you should need; http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/cycle/cycling-information/cyclingnearyou
 Share this content via...

HDious   10 #41 Posted May 12, 2012 This car park here just zoom out and you'll get an Idea, it's actually only around 5-6 miles from the Monsal Trail, in fact when you feel like a challenge you can start at the Monsal then pick up a short on road cycle route and join the High Peak/Tissington Trail and no I haven't done it:wow: I have done the High Peak but I started at Cromford and went past Parsley Hey right to the end and back, around 34 miles in total,
 Share this content via...
1978   14 #42 Posted May 12, 2012 thanks for that however looking at the maps on there im still none the wiser about where to park etc do you know anywhere that is easily accessible? thanks  Parsley Hay is just off the A515 Buxton - Ashbourne road.  Go to Bakewell, follow the B5055 road to Monyash. In Monyash turn left immediately after the Bulls head pub (on your right). Follow that road until the A515, turn left, and immediately turn right by brown sign that says 'Parsley Hay'. Parsley Hay is immediately on your right with parking and a refreshment kiosk + bike hire.  From Parsley Hay you can take the Tissington Trail or the High Peak Trail.  If going on a busy warm and sunny day - Parsley Hay car park will be full!  In that case don't turn left in Monyash but continue to the A515, cross the road and take the road almost opposite towards Longnor. The road will soon do a sharp left turn to cross the old railway track forming the cycle way. The Hurdlow car park is just before the road bridge. There's a pub just over the bridge and it's about 2K to cycle down to Parsley Hay.
 Share this content via...

About 40 miles. A good days ride, but the start and finish sections are rather boring as they're fairly flat on the old railways. I think it was Cromford I stated at or it could've been Hopton, whichever it was I started riding from the car park then came to a 2 mile incline which I had to walk up, there's also an old train at the top which used to run on the old railway. Going back down was quite fun though
 Share this content via...

Going back down was quite fun though  Did that one in 2010 just after retiring - and not having cycled any significant distance for over 40 years - but I haven't done any more cycling since - I was very sore!!! I admit I walked up from Cromford but did manage to cycle up the Hopton incline.
 Share this content via...
