2005 Revisited..

Cast your minds back to 2005 and the winners of the Playoffs in all three divisions where:

Championship

West Ham

League 1

Sheffield Wednesday

League 2

Southend

Move on to this year and have a look who will be involved (likely) in the playoffs again in the exact same divisions.

Now I'm not one for omens, and I hope we get automatic but you have to say that it's uncanny :o

In 2006, when Reading won the Championship, the blades were promoted in second place... and in the same season Southend and Carlisle were also both promoted... and Liverpool won the FA Cup...

I think the fact we've not dropped into the play-offs a the last minute (like west ham have) will help us, sometimes clubs get confidence knocked when that happens, we're in fantastic form and if we carry that on then we'll be close.

Dave Jones I'm assuming had a mixed record in the play-offs? Went up with Wolves beating Sheff Utd convincingly and then while Cardiff manager bottling it at the final hurdle, should be interesting

Also we sealed promotion in April.

Just a thought.

I wonder if the Owls might suffer a confidence knock if they only narrowly fail to overhaul the Blades? Not as badly as the Blades might if they do get caught, but still, it could be a worry.

Teams which are clearly not going to be second but are very clearly third, usually win the playoffs. Teams which very nearly were second but just missed out, don't have nearly as good a record.

I think we fall more into the not likely to get 2nd than the just missed out category
