The obsession with fleecing motorists continues .

 

you're only get a fine if you break the speed limit which is displayed for all to see so really it's an obsession with fleecing those to stupid to understand road signs or too arrogant to think that they apply to them.

 

Either way, lets have more of them and make the roads nicer and safer to drive on

If the power wielders really wanted to make our roads "safe" then any one caught speeding should have their licence revoked, commensurate with their speed.

 

5 miles over the limit, a weeks ban, 10 miles over the limit a months ban, 15 miles over a 3 month ban, 20+ over a 1 year ban.

Lowering speed limit is proven to reduce the severity of injuries arising from collisions.

Do you not understand that these are average speed cameras that measure your speed over a length of road?

 

You need cameras at the start and end of the length to be enforced, as well as at junctions where vehicles enter and leave the road being enforced. So of course they need a gantry near the roundabout, which I believe you will find has cameras which pick up vehicles heading in both directions.

The cameras are recording the back of the car AS IT IT BREAKING for the roundabout so the speed will be reduced dramatically.

If you've driven the last half mile or so at around 60 mph, do you think that braking to, say, 30 mph over the last 50 yds or so is going to bring you within the 50 limit, as measured by the average speed cameras?

 

Edit. Ah, I think I understand where you are going wrong. As I understand it, the average speed cameras are not trying, in themselves, to measure speed. All they are doing is recording the time at which a vehicle passes them. They then compare this with the time that the same vehicle passed an earlier camera, at a known distance away, and work out the average speed of that vehicle between the two points. So, it doesn't matter whether the vehicle is braking or not, as the camera is not trying to measure its speed at that point in time.
