Kwik Fit, rubbish service or am I just being picky?

I took a focus there for MOT a few years ago it failed on few things that I did, I was very busy at the time so I asked my wife to take it back for retest, everything was done that they asked me to do,they past it OK and the next thing a guy from out of the garage came and said to here that the brakes were sticking on the back and it might be dangerous,I told here not to listen to any of there bull**** as they would probably try it on with here being a an attractive woman, and sure enough they did,as soon as she said whose car it was they changed and said OK and went off about there jobs it shows that they do try it on thinking they can make a few quid out of the unsuspecting customers.

There is a follow up to the story the car did develop a brake fault later on it turned out to be a sticking handbrake return leaver that had seized up,I must give them a bit of credit for spotting that but you could hardly call that dangerous though.

have to say I've only ever had good service at the hillsborough kwik fit, admittedly I've only taken my car in for minor things like a tyre change or simple mot pass but they have always been quick, polite and reasonably priced.

I know it's a little 'out of the way' for most people, but I find when I've found a good garage to let others know.

 

I use Parkside BMW in Worksop (Sandy Lane) - BMW specialists, although I *think* they do service other cars too.

 

I've never had any work done by Kwik Fit I should add, but can't say anything wrong about Parkside.

As you might have gathered, I am talking about experiences some fifteen years ago. At that time these pads were supplied as OEM to manufacturers for production line fitment. They were also made available to the main agents as genuine parts to be fitted with new discs as a set.

I don't know if they are still available or even if they are currently used on new vehicles. The main function was to enable the final disc surface finishing to be done on the vehicle, presumably to cut down on machining costs. The surface of the pads had a deposit similar to emery dust which polished up the disc surface as the brake was applied. Usually by the time the car had been driven off the line and to a couple of storage compounds the deposit had been worn away along with any machining marks from the disc.This left a disc and pad matching perfectly with 100% surface contact. If the previous post about the KF customer being warned about the pads smelling does relate to these type of pads then they must still be being made. They were not normally available from car spares shops, more a main agent or trade factor product. The last ones I had were made by Mintex Don at their factory in Cleckheaton. As with most of our manufacturing this has now gone and the production moved overseas.

I always thought the self regrinding disc pads was just a made up story if they do exist why are they not selling like hot cakes? Having said that new discs are cheap enough to buy but the quality is not as good are the first disc brake systems were,in the sixties it was rare to change discs today its routine.

Hi, No you are most definately not being picky. I also had the bad luck to get car insurance from them - only to find 2 months later that they had taken double the agreed amount. I have no convictions, never made a claim and when i asked them about it they became quite aggresive and neither could they give me a straight answer other than that they had got the original quote wrong. When I threatened to cancel they said they would take another £65.00 from my account plus the £37.50 the had allready took. In the past 2 weeks I have had 17 letters from them, 2 threateners and up to 8 phone calls a day. What a complete shower of useless, incompetent rubbish they are. DO NOT USE THICK WIT FOR ANYTHING - THEY ARE ROBBERS.

I've taken my fiance's car to kwik fit. Gave 101 things as a precaution/advisor on the MOT, next year, went to another garage. Clean slate! Don't trust Kwik fit at all

I bought a car that had it's previous MOT at Kwik Fit. It had an advisory on rust near the seat belt mount points. I had it for two more MOT cycles and took it elsewhere - there was never any mention of rust anywhere.

It all depends on the tester I suppose...I had an advisory about a slightly corroded brake pipe on a car,took it back a year later to the same garage for the test and it passed without any advisories..

Hmm - a warning in year 1 from Kwik Fit (car had 26k miles and was 10 years old and kept in a garage)

 

Year 2 - car is 11 years old and has 41k miles on it and has been kept outdoors - no mention

 

Year 3 - car is 12 years old, has 60k on it and is still kept outdoors - no mention.

 

It could be one tester being too keen, but it would appear he was being much too keen.

 

My current car was last serviced by Kwik Fit as it happens - the bill was more than I paid for the whole car 3 months after the service. Looking at what was done, I'd be surprised if it came to much more than half the cost at my local garage.
