spindrift   10 #62 Posted December 31, 2009 Ask for local agents' details, a copy of their contract, what they charge, who handles repairs. Check ARLA membership, see if they're in the Rntal Guarantee Scheme, I don't think it's obligatory.  Invite the best three round to view and pick the one who impresses you, but not by unrealistically inflating the yield. Fairhomes   10 #64 Posted January 6, 2010 Dear icecream, I have been a landlord myself for quite a while now and have just started a letting agency, as I was frustrated with some of the charges/services of the bigger "faceless" agents. We have no plans to clutter landlords and tenants with "Letting Agent Babble", or hidden fees and charges. Our pricing structure is extremely competitive and can be seen on our website at Fairhomes Property Services. I don't want to appear to be doing a big sell, because we don't do that and I believe an intelligent landlord/tenant will make up their own mind. If we can be of any help just give us a call, or send an email and I can always email you back with some further details. Kind regards Fairhomes Property Services. skoyne   10 #68 Posted January 12, 2010 I've been a landlord for about seven years. Tried doing it myself at first which was a nightmare, then tried various big name city centre/eccy rd agents that shall remain nameless but they were all equally useless. A mate of mine then recommended shefflets so I gave them a try and they've been fantastic.  The guy there made me laugh, he said "never trust a letting agent in a suit, he's an estate agent who isn't selling much at the moment and is trying to get some money in!"  I think that sums it up really, which ever one you choose, choose a specialist letting agent because any shop that does sales and lettings will concentrate on the big bucks of doing sales while your property sits empty. Their website is http://www.shefflets.com and they are on Hillsborough corner. You won't go far wrong with them.
 Share this content via...
Zomoniac   10 #69 Posted January 13, 2010 I'm currently renting with Sheff-Lets, and have been for just over a year. We had a few problems in the early months, calling with problems and not having them sorted for weeks, sometimes months, but lately things have improved exponentially. I think they were just snowed under at first and understaffed, and things got forgotten about. They've since added at least one new body to the support team, Hannah (I think), who's very nice and always calls back quickly when she says she will (which was my main problem early on, promised callbacks that never came, had to be repeatedly chased up). Jaime, who I think runs the company, is lovely, very friendly and helpful (and cute!). Lately they've been nothing short of great, everything gets sorted quickly, and I'm very happy with them.  So now you've had a glowing review from both a landlord and a tenant, which I assume you'd want (no point having an agent that keeps you happy if they make the tenants so miserable that they leave your property after six months, as Blundells did to us with our last place).
