The sign for the old ARP point is still visible at the back of the shops on Crosspool.

There was a prisoner of war camp  at Lodge Moor.

A lady I knew (later in the video) sang at concerts for the guards and staff there, as well as many other camps in Yorkshire.

The Lodge Moor camp was the focal point for a planned mass escape of German POWs in 1944 that never came to fruition. The plan was for escapes to take place at all the UK camps, which held many thousands of prisoners, and for them all to congregate at Lodge Moor before marching on Sheffield. It was set for December 1944 and intended to cause disruption in the UK to divert resources from defending the Ardennes offensive.

There is a book by Charles Whiting called 'The march on London' that details this (page 109).

Back garden actually; a friend worked on that house a few years ago.  Extremely long back gardens around there.

Must be a different house Mr Caruso , this one is in the front garden snuggled up against the high  stone boundry wall , it is over grown with brambles and is around no 60 to 80 house no .

If you do not look closely you can miss it , the bloody Germans did .

These sites are worth checking.

The last one deals with the Italian POW camp at Hickleton, Nr Doncaster as mentioned in one of Brian Blessed's books.

My apologies, I hadn't noticed that one. The other was there perhaps 8-10 years ago down the back garden, and could be seen from Handsworth Rd, but down at the lower end of Hall Road.
