Any one go to Owler Lane Intermediate school

Recommended Posts

:roll:hi richard,l posted a message last night but it seems to have got lost in the atmos. l dont seem to recognise any one in the photos but it is a long time ago,l see you have landed in norfolk as me and my family have, keep up the contact as it does seem to jog the oldd memory box.

Surely you recognised some of the teachers? In the 5th Form photo with boys and girls, I'm the one fourth from the right, wearing glasses - between Mr Pashley and Mr Helliwell in the row below. In the 3rd form photo I'm sitting amongst the girls and next to their teacher whose name I can't remember. I was form captain that year in 3A. The form teacher was Mr Moss who taught us French.

Good to be in touch.

You can copy the photos off Facebook by right clicking - 'select all' then 'copy'. You can then paste onto a word doc and increase the size. The quality deteriorates if you go too big but it should help.

I remember the names you mentioned but don't have a mental picture of them so probably wouldn't recognise them.

Hello Richard, My name is Brian Moss and I started this thread six years ago....my doesn't time fly! I'll be blowing the photo's up tomorrow as I can't quite make out the faces. I do think the school secretary, Miss Crowe is on one of them. Twenty years later I was dealing roulette to her at Napoleons Casino on Ecclesall Road. She didn't recognise me, but I definitely remembered her!!! Also we took Mr Moss for French. After perusing my classwork one day he said, 'It almost makes me weep to know that you have the same name as me'

Hi Brian, You're right about the school secretary, she is in the 5th Form photo sitting next to Miss/Mrs Fairest or Fairhurst (not sure of the spelling but she taught history). It's funny because I remember the school secretary really well (actually quite fancied her in those days) but couldn't remember her name at all.

Re Eddie Moss, I can imagine him saying that to you. I was lucky because I got on with him really well, probably because I was good at French. He was my form master for 2 years (3A & 4A). I wanted to do French at A level when I left but it didn't fit in with my other choices when I went on High Storrs Grammar.

I see you are now in the States - when since and doing what? Not bad after going to Owler Lane!

Hi Derek, I remember Mrs Needham well. She was my first form teacher at Owler Lane and is in the middle of one of the photos. (The one with me on the left end as you look at it in a dark jacket). She left at the end of that year and I seem to remember she went to Canada.

I had a long journey to Norfolk too, from Sheffield to Scotland via Barnsley and then on to North East Lincolnshire before Norwich. I am also 20 years into my second marriage with 4 step children and now 4 grandchildren. Great to be in touch.

Hi Geoff, Yes we're still talking about Owler Lane Intermediate. I suspect that Derek and I were a few years ahead of you in the school and maybe some of the peolpe we remember had left by te time you arrived. I left in July 1961.

Not sure how to respond to this - for once I'm speachless.

I see from earlier posts you kept in touch with Ralph O'Donnell. I really liked Ralph. He arrived in time for our final year and revived the football and cricket teams. We hadn't had a proper sports master since the end of second year when a guy called Lupton left. So for 2 years we had no organised sport with other schools. Do you know where Ralph is now? I remember he once got us tickets for a cup tie against Burnley. He was a nice guy.
