tombodojoj   10 #6 Posted January 19, 2004 when i went on my basic training for the army, (even at the interview) the rule was if you can't do 8 chin ups (lift your body mass up 8 times) you were overweight. apparently it meens you are well propd if you can do it, so depending on how tall you are 12 stone might be the problem. DaBouncer   13 #8 Posted January 19, 2004 Originally posted by Abdul There's your problem mate! I weigh more than 12 stone abby and I can do chin ups quite easily.  Upper body strength (biceps and triceps) is a good idea. Push ups, bench press etc may be a good starter for you.  Another idea is to get a chin up bar and start of with one.... do it regular till you hit 2 and so on! From my experience I saw guys who failed on the pull ups but passed the running and situps. Those guys were given a second chance to complete the pull ups. If they failed then that was it. Of course there is nothing to stop them re-applying. This could have changed though if they are short on numbers as the majority don't even make it through the medical. I found that during basic training the various fitness tests see the amount of pull ups required increase slightly. Those who are not able to complete them will receive remedial PT until they can. I'm not convinced the weight has anything to do with it. I've seen people with a build not so different from yours complete the pull ups with ease. Lickszz   10 #11 Posted January 19, 2004 Looks like there might have been a couple of changes since I did mine.  In my day it was:  1.5 miles run in 12 mins Situp beep test Pull ups on beam. (I think 7 were required)
 Share this content via...
