Look for any sign of people who don't fit the likely profile of a sneak thief - eg elderly people, clearly respectable people then give them a knock and explain whats gone off. If it was a false positive you'll soon find out that nobody in the area is at it, if there is a resident scrote you'll probably not have to speak to more than a couple of residents to identify them.
