What is the brook through Woodseats called?

Recommended Posts

Woodseats house was NOT where KFC is , it was on other side of road as stated above, Woodseats house road is a good clue.

Woodseats house was where the KFC is, not the other side of the road. More the carpark side of it to be fair, but that bit of land non the less.

Has that bit of land behind KFC ever been anything? Always been walked off in time I've known, think there was a caravan on there in 90s

....and Meersbrook, funnily enough. In places it is still the line between Heeley and Meersbrook. It is the ancient boundary between the kingdoms of Northumbria and Mercia.

Meers Brook starts at Gleadless and flows westward until it merges with the River Sheaf at Heeley. In ancient times it was the boundary line that seperated the Kingdoms of Northumbria and Mercia.

The reason there's no name or map reference for the brook that flows through Woodseats is because it isn't a brook at all. It's part of the land seep and sewage overspill system. The systems aim is to prevent flooding by allowing excess water to drain out of the land and excess water to escape from the sewage pipes whenever we have torrential rainstorms. (If you were to follow the flow of your so-called 'Brook' you would probably find it merges with the River Sheaf. As most of the overspill systems in Sheffield merge into the rivers).

Ive heard of this mythological border betwixt Northumbria and Mercia somany times..at dore and now woodseats etc. It's an old wives tale there never was a border or rather a set one .. The exact border changed all the time .. and was probably much further south ..although it's the Land north of the Humber, Lindsey was always part of Northumbria.. so maybe the beginning of the Pennines was the start of Northumbria (Today's Northernengland & Southernscotland)
