denomis Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 "the next-generation Xbox console which could be named*“XBOX 8″*– not 8 because it’s the eighth Xbox, but because it’s the eighth generation home console and heavily shares the same software as upcoming Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8" Really? Xbox 8 that's worse than xbox 720.
anywebsite Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 They're not very good at counting. 1,360,8 It shows in their software too.
dosxuk Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 See also 2, 3, 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, 2000, 7, 8... It's just a name. They could call it the XBOX FRED if they wanted, it won't make any difference to how good the console is.

HotPhil Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I wish I could forget Vista. Whatever/whenever a new Xbox comes out, the name will be unimportant to a lot of people. On the one hand I'd be surprised if the name included "8" (the lifespan of a console format generally seems to reach double-digit years, but Windows versions have usually had a shorter retail lifespan - meaning that when the Windows-after-8 came out, an "Xbox 8" would seem old, if that follows.
DaFoot Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I'm more concerned that next xbox will contain measures to prevent trade in 2nd hand games. More and more have to buy DLC on top of game, killing second hand market may well be enough to persuade me to get PS next time.
HotPhil Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 There's an easy way they could kill the 2nd hand market (intentionally, or as a by-product) - a move away from physical media. DLC's already a part of the Xbox experience, I expect it'll only grow. As broadband speeds increase, there's arguably little future in going to a store and paying wildly varying prices for a disc. I'll bet the games studios would love to guarantee that they get a cut for each person their game reaches.
dosxuk Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 You forgot Vista! Edit: And Millenium! Is "Vista" a number? XP, WFW, NT and several other non-numeric editions are missing too.

Then you'll be in the same boat, they're all going in the same direction. Also worth pointing out that it's not necessarily the manufacturer who's adding these restrictions, rather the publishers themselves so choice of console will be largely irrelevant.
Eric_Collins Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Also the talk is that this will have an interactive one , the i8 Xbox 2
