Leah-Lacie Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Justice-for-Fudge/117441935003478 I saw that a while back, and it broke my heart, but basically, do not sign the dog over to anyone if anything does come of it. Don't sign anything, and don't let them take the dog. I'm not sure what, but, there are things you can do to keep the dog, such as having it muzzled in public etc. I'm not 100% on it, but I'm sure others can give advice.
ami_j Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 She cant have pitbull in her as pitbull is a set of specifications she either is of type or isnt. shame the woman didnt think before bandying around the term Best thing you can do is keep her well socialised, work on her training and make sure she never gives anyone reason to report her. If the worst happens (unlikely) get in touch with these people + DO NOT sign anything https://www.facebook.com/pages/DDA-Watch/366883744658 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wheldon-Law-Specialist-Canine-and-Criminal-Lawyers/150811211620082

Berkana Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 That is absolutely dsgusting that the nurse told you that the dog "could turn" because she "thinks" she's of type. If she thinks this then I wouldn't trust her judgement at all. I doubt that the pdsa would send the police round, but if the dog ever does get seized then you can fight to get her back if you can prove that you're a responsible owner. The police will formally assess the dog to see if it is "of type" - if she's not, she'll be returned, if she is then you either sign the dog over to be pts or you fight it in court (dog remains in police kennels until the case is over). There is an organisation set up to help people with these things: http://www.ddawatch.co.uk/ And Leah, that facebook page isn't very helpful...

Bubble3082 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Just out of curiosity, what are the main differences between a staffy and a PBT? I've done a web search and all I seem to get is stuff about American staffies and PBTs, and that the English staffy is 'smaller'. Are there any other characteristics?

I do believe it is mostly on size and weight, you can buy a 'staffy' pup in good faihth, where the grandparents somewhere have been crossed with a Pitbull or some other bigger dog, and your staffy can turn out a bit bigger than it should due to genetics, which would class it as being 'of type'. Most 'staffys' that you can buy these days are in fact crossed somewhere with something, and there are very few 'pure' ones around. If it gets a bit taller, or generally bigger than standard staffy KC regulation sizes, it can be classed as pitbull type.
