bus man   10 #50 Posted December 23, 2012 Specific examples of non-operation should be reported to Travel South Yorkshire https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/tellus/  ---------- Post added 21-12-2012 at 04:36 ----------   Which it may still be if people aren't using the service provided. Where are all those people who campaigned for the number 4 bus? Having won their campaign they should be supporting this bus. Use it or lose it.  Unfortuanatley there is a long tradition in this area of very vocal campaigns for bus services that when they are put on usualy results in very low customer uptake
 Share this content via...
Jeffrey Shaw   90 #51 Posted December 23, 2012 Anyway, there are really two parts to the service provision: 1. From City via Psalter Lane. 2. The Millhouses loop.  It's possible to have one without the other. Svc. 4 now serves Bents Green (re-establishing a bus going up Bents Road, after a gap with none). The Millhouses loop is served by svc. 83.
 Share this content via...
tbtc   10 #52 Posted December 23, 2012 What I have noticed over years is that, when a certain bus route starts to get unreliable people start to commute by other methods. The bus company then see's a reduction in demand and cuts services because people aren't using it as much. If it keeps happening the bus route could be lost altogether. Coming back to surveys I think many people who never use a bus still want it running,"just in case".  Vicious circle.  Fewer people use service  Bus company make cutbacks  Fewer people use service  Bus company threaten to make further cuts  A thousand people sign a petition promising to use this vital public service  Even fewer people use the service  PTE has to rescue the service and ends up paying a lot of our council tax to satisfy car users who want an hourly bus service for the one day a year that their vehicle is in for servicing  Other tendered services see cuts to find money for these "saved" services  (repeat to fade)
 Share this content via...
