Been told by work men woodseats road could re open on friday the 13th

But "Friday The 13th" films come in instalments- so maybe reopening won't be instantaneous either.

Star tonight, page 12 (not on internet site), has a picture of the new bridge across both tracks with two trains immediately below.

A Network Rail spokesman said " We are working to complete the bridge and reopen one line of traffic by January 18. We apologise for any inconvenience." The bridge is due to be finished by the end of the month.

So, I suppose they might get it partially open by the weekend if the weather stays fine, but not too long to wait until 18th, and final completion a few days later.

I'm 100% sure it will be reopened, because I've just driven over it half an hour ago. It's still traffic light controlled and only single file traffic, but it is now open to traffic.

Been over today, the traffic lane appears to be extremely narrow with the original metal road barriers keeping the line.

Looking to the side, there is a large hole in the roadway which still needs to be filled before the road can be fully opened.

Woodseats Road Bridge Today

DSCN1039401376.jpg

The reason why the bridge is down to one lane and with traffic lights is due to the fact that the bridge is not finished , remember that due to the fact that the origional project overan due to weather problems the work will take longer.

As you will proabably know by now the road reopened on friday night to cars and buses started using it yesterday morning from 0845 yesterday.

The sleeper bridge and traffic lights have been put back in on a temporary basis to allow work to continue on the bridge which is not yet complete, obvious work needing completion includes the railings and the gap between the new bridge and the banking.

Yesterday afternoon:

Woodseats Road in Sheffield was closed for bridgeworks as planned from after the last bus passed on 24 December 2011. Demolition of the old bridge was completed ahead of schedule on the 25th but high winds on the 26th prevented all the new units being installed. This meant that the road did not re-open as planned by 0500 on the 28th and will remain closed until such time as a railway possession can be obtained to complete the works, hopefully over a weekend by early February 2012.

[NB: obviously, later events have overtaken that]

As previously reported, the contracted svc.75 journeys on 26 December 2011 & 1 January 2012 operated via Chesterfield Rd & London Rd between Woodseats & Highfield in both directions, omitting Abbeydale Rd. On the morning of the 27th some svc.75 & 76 buses also used Chesterfield Rd & London Rd but by noon all were using First's preferred diversion of running as normal via Abbeydale Rd, continuing on to Abbeydale Road South and then using Abbey Ln to re-join the normal routes at Bocking Ln (svc.76) or at the bottom of Meadowhead (svc. 75). These arrangements were expected to be in force until Woodseats Rd re-opened but, owing to public pressure over svcs.75/76 not serving Woodseats centre, a revision was made from 4 January 2012. From that date: svc.75 operated via Chesterfield Rd & London Rd in both directions (like svc. 25A) between Highfield & Woodseats centre; svc.76 ran via Abbeydale Rd then Archer Rd & Hutcliffe Wood Rd to Bocking Ln in both directions (like svc.87); a free half-hourly Monday-Saturday 'Woodseats Road shuttle', operated by Sheffield Community Transport, was introduced. The latter runs between 0700 & 1830 from the Abbeydale Road Tesco via Abbeydale Rd, Broadfield Rd, Broadfield Wy, Little London Rd & Athol Rd to join Woodseats Rd beyond the bridge site, then up Woodseats Rd to terminate just before its junction with the A61 Chesterfield Rd. Return journeys - at 0745 to 1845 - loop via the A61 & Scarsdale Rd back to Woodseats Rd and the reverse of the outwards journey. Note that the prolonged closure of Woodseats Rd bridge also affects svc.701 (Darnall-Manor Top-High Storrs School) which is diverted between the bottom of Meadowhead & Abbeydale Rd via Abbey Ln, Hutcliffe Wood Rd & Archer Rd in both directions.
