well, it is a multiple choice poll!

i mean yes and no together in one option, as i do when it wakes my 2 year old up and he wont go bk to sleep because of it hovering around the estate, but i dont agree the rest of the time

I thought it had now been agreed to keep it?

But, in my opinion it is too costly and not very cost effective for what it does so should be scrapped.

i think there should be another one because of the number of times the one we have is never on the ground for long they have to look at the results the helecopter makes they would see it is justified

get rid of helicopter and put more coppers on the beat

The helicopter would beat even 1000 extra Police Officers 'on the beat' as they would never be in the right place at the right time, able to use thermal imaging to find offenders hiding under bushes etc

they are not scapping it altogether South Yorkshire keeps its Helecopter 10 hours per day 7 days a week and the other time they will have coverage from the NPAS

Police Authority Agree Revised Proposals

South Yorkshire Police Authority has reached agreement with the National Police Air Service (NPAS) to retain a helicopter based in Sheffield. The Authority had raised concerns that the initial NPAS proposals, announced last year, did not provide sufficient cover for South Yorkshire. Following negotiations with NPAS, the Authority has agreed in principle to join the national scheme on the basis that the coverage will be divided between a Sheffield-based aircraft and the NPAS. The Sheffield based aircraft will be available on a ten-hour shift for seven days a week, while the county will also have access to the national service operating on a 24/7 coverage from their NPAS bases outside South Yorkshire. The solution now offered by NPAS will not incur any additional costs compared with the current South Yorkshire Police helicopter service.

Well, from what ive found out:

G-SYPS:

it has two "PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA PW207E" engines, and was built in 2002, and has a maximum take off weight of 2835kg with only 32 hours flying time behind it!

so maybe some of our resident helicopter experts could tell us about engine noise from them :)

Most helicopter noise comes from the rotor blades, the blade tips passing through the sound barrier just as most propellor blades do on fixed wing aircraft. No noise no flight. I was a helicopter crewman.

A good proportion of the noise on the SYP helicopter come from the turbo engine which is use for steering as it has no rear stabilising rotor.

Not really so, the removal of the rear stabilising rotor results in a safer aircraft, and also a less noisy aircraft as you've only got one rotor making noise.
