How much does it cost to dispatch the chopper? Call me cynical, but there must be half the tweets that end in 'No trace' or 'Offenders already left premises' .. or similar messages of a failed operation. ..... is it really doing a great deal that couldn't be done by road at a fraction of the cost?

One odd thing I've noticed about this forum is how excited people get about helicopters flying over Sheffield.

All it takes is the police helicopter to hover over an area of Sheffield or a Chinook to fly over and there's a rash of postings on this forum. Does anyone know why? I'm sure people in other cities are well used to seeing Flying Machines and don't feel the need to report every single sighting on the internet.

It wasn't that long ago that electricity came to Sheffield, so I'm not surprised.

Its because they are all like my hubby! aeroplane nerds! All it takes is a helicopter to fly over and he nearly falls over his self getting to the window! :loopy:

The police helicopter gets reported so people can get out into the street in the hope of seeing a high-speed police chase or someone being arrested.

A lot of locals have mundane lives and are easily amused.A change in the traffic lights stirs some people, others settle for the sounds of ice-cream vans and repeats of Neighbours

It's only a matter of time before the US sends an attack chopper here by mistake, I for one would like a heads up of any sightings so I can decide whether to duck and cover.

Its the rarity, I think as there are not so many about. Shame they didn't get excited when we had an airport.
