giancoopa   10 #37 Posted January 26, 2012 You cant go wrong with a Kindle, it is what it is. If you want something more but dont want to pay £400, just wait till the Kindle Fire is released in europe (check Amazon US) The fire is Kindles version of the Ipad but for less than half the cost. It looks fantastic. I think i can say that i will be purchasing when its available.
 Share this content via...
Narden Dee   10 #38 Posted January 26, 2012 Can anybody tell me the difference between these two please...i am considering getting one but the ereader seems easier than kindle..and for some reason cant get on to amazon...ta  as someone who has both a tablet ( ipad, but not a fanboy) and a Kindle i would recommend getting a kindle if you want to read books  I personally find it easier to read with, and also (more importantly) the wife finds it easier, a tablet is a brilliant device for other stuff and you can also use it to read books but if its just reading you want to do then i would go with the Kindle or Kobo both do what you require for less than £100.  also you don't have to buy your books from Amazon ( who use their own proprietary system .AMZ) there are other retailers which also sell books in .mobi format which can be added to a Kindle via Calibre for ease. Twitcher   10 #39 Posted January 26, 2012 I am new to ereading. I had a Kobo Vox for my birthday, at first I was a bit dissappoited as I wanted a Kindle, then I discovered I could do loads more on this, I have the Kindle app on there so can buy from Amazon, or anywhere unlike the Kindle.  A word about backlighting, you can adjust the setting to sepia or night time reading which I think is great, the only downside so far is the battery life isn't as impressive as a Kindle but then it;s not going to be as essentially it's a tablet as well.  Does all I need and way more, really happy and just in case you're interested it was £180. mj.scuba   10 #40 Posted January 26, 2012 I fancy the idea of being able to do more than just read like watching a video or browsing for £170, you can't go wrong.  Blackberry Playbook 16gb are back down to £169 again.
 Share this content via...
SILLY   10 #41 Posted January 26, 2012 I have to say I am not yet sold on an e-reader even though I love new tech and have been an early adopter in the past. I have a library card and access to the on-line search & reserve system http://library.sheffield.gov.uk/uhtbin/webcat  Any book I feel like reading , I lookup and add to my reserve list and they deliver it to Broomhill library and send me a message to tell me it is ready...  All for free...  Until e-books drop in price drastically , I will stick to old fashioned real books.  That's exactly what I used to do until I had a Kindle bought for me at Christmas. I have now downloaded 20 books lot's of them free and it is so easy to just take my Kindle with me wherever I go. I also have some cookery books on so when we go to our caravan they are still with me. They are also easier to read in bed at night as if you fall asleep they shut down and save your page something that I have found very useful.. Another plus point is that if you have several books on the go at once it remembers what page you are on I wouldn't be without mine well worth my Husbands money. I don't know anything about I-Pads, but I thought they had 3-G or 4-G or whatever way you connect direct to the Internet?  The Kindle Fire has Wi-Fi. OK if you're at home or near a hotspot, but otherwise you've no internet connection.
 Share this content via...
butterball   10 #43 Posted January 26, 2012 I love my kindle, my husband surprised me with it before I was due to have our daughter last year, fantastic 'push' present hehe. They're so much easier than books but I'll often have a massive download session and so end up with loads of books I'm desperate to read all at once. It's very tempting to flick between them and I've had to stop myself and be firm with myself lol
 Share this content via...
BarryRiley   10 #44 Posted January 27, 2012 The linked tablet is absolutely dreadful and frankly the web browser on my Kindle is probably better.  You don't own one so you cannot make such a statement.  I wasn't suggesting the tablet was better than the iPad, I was simply stating that it had a better overall review score than the iPad on Amazon, despite you saying that all the reviews said it was terrible.
