hillsbro   32 #3 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Hi Kay1 - from the Tinsley section of White's Directory of Sheffield and Rotherham, 1905:  "The Church of St Lawrence, which occupies the site of the original Norman edifice, was rebuilt in 1877-79 by the late Mrs Overend of Retford, at a cost of nearly £5000, in memory of her first husband, George Hounsfield Esq., whose remains are interred beneath the organ chamber. It is a good example of the Late Fourteenth century style..."  This English Heritage web page also states that the church was built in 1879, quoting from the relevant volume in Nikolaus Pevsner's "Buildings of England" series.  Hope this is helpful..
