Poland perhaps?

They might get a flat for that money. There are 1 bedroom ones at the top of Meersbrook park, but they're tiny. Nice area though.

Get the Sheffield Telegraph on Friday. You may get somewhere in S5 (Firth Park, Fir Vale). You could also get somewhere in Rotherham which is much cheaper and not that far from Sheffield.

You'd get something at Fir Vale or Tinsley, whether you'd want to live there is another matter.

I can't see you even getting a flat for 40k. I went to look at a flat in Hillsborough and that was 60k, one bedroom and needed loads doing to it.

Various housing associations run shered ownership schemes to help people in this position. Try the council housing office to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Try searching here:

Sheffield property search

There are several semis in Chapletown or Deepcar for around £40k.

If they moved further out - towards Worksop/ Creswell more properties can be had for that money. But then it's a 40 minute drive back to Sheffield!

Great site for properties in sheffield!

Have you thought about the homestead scheme?

Have a look in a Haybrook estate agents

You can get houses between 20 - 40k, usually in pitsmoor...

The only rule is that you have to spend 5k in the first year doing it up.... could be 3 years actually!

Check it out!
