Iona1 Â Â 10 #1 Posted January 16, 2012 Hello Sheffield dwellers, Â I am a Londoner coming to visit friends and family in Sheffield next month. We have a ten month old baby who is in a stage two car seat now (the big ones you can't possibly carry on a train!) and don't have a car. In London we know of a couple of taxi firms that will bring the correct car seat all fitted, otherwise you can legally get into a black cab with a baby in a pushchair. I wondered if anyone else has done this in Sheffield and has any recommendations for black cab firms you can call out or minicab companies that have that facility. Â We need to get from London Road to Fulwood mid morning and then from Fulwood to the station at lunchtime. Â Any info much appreciated. Looking forward to inaugurating our son to the joys of Sheffers for the first time. Â Iona
 Share this content via...

Iona1 Â Â 10 #3 Posted January 16, 2012 Thanks anyway. Worth it just to google 'dee-dars'. Never heard that before! Is that to be used as a term of endearment or will I get punched in the mouth if I say it in the pub during my stay?
 Share this content via...
Blue Day   10 #4 Posted January 16, 2012 City taxis have black cabs that take prams.  You won't get many taxis that carry their own car seats because it can cause a problem for their insurance if there was an accident.
 Share this content via...
Leah-Lacie   10 #5 Posted January 16, 2012 I used to just ring City Taxis, 0114 2393939, ask for a black cab, they don't tend to take any longer to arrive than any other x
 Share this content via...

Bloomdido   10 #7 Posted January 16, 2012 Black cab and pushchair is the only real option. I transport children and have car seats for all ages but I doubt taxi firms do up here. Perhaps they should. You can just about get a 0-9 months, 9 months to 3 years and booster with detachable back in the boot.
 Share this content via...

It's well known through many taxi firms that drivers that supply baby / child seats are possibly risking invalidating their insurance. Basically because the seat isn't factory fitted and if there's an accident and the child is hurt the driver is culpable even if the accident wasn't his fault. m001 Â Â 10 #12 Posted January 17, 2012 taxis are exempt from car seats so it would be no problem to just order a normal taxi for both journeys, if u did want to leave the pram up a blackcab would be fine for that.
 Share this content via...
