Stars & Mayfair, Drinks licence

Recommended Posts

Breaking news, Stars have appealed the Councils disproportionate decision to attempt to remove their licence.

We have reopened and all our functions are proceeding as booked. The Stars management are doing everything in their power to ensure that people's important bookings are honoured and personal posts made against the management will result in immediate legal action being taken, the cancellation of your function and loss of any monies that have been paid. If you wish to cancel your function your deposit would normally be non refundable (£50 standard function, £200 wedding package). However, in these circumstances we would consider referring the matter to our insurers to consider a full refund, but this could take many months to be processed.

We fully appreciate that people are frustrated when they cannot get through on the telephones, especially when so many people want the same conversation, our telephones are manned after 6:30pm monday to Friday and at Weekends between 10am and 4pm. If you wish to have a personal conversation about your booking please call: 0114 2723132 giving the date of your booking and the name it was booked in and you can request a direct Mobile number for the Stars management, please note this is strictly to assist current bookings and should not be given out to other 3rd parties.

Threatening legal action isn't going to help either! People are only venting their anger and using Nigel for this as he is the only name and contact a lot of people have its nothing personal against him. We know we are stuck betwee a rock and a hard place but when we're getting different versions of information from different sources ie the star the bbc the internet and Nigel himself it's difficult what to believe.

This not a personal vendetta against Nigel not for me personally anyway, all I want is to know where I stand and I understand it has to go to the insurers but it's made me cautious to book anywhere else especially because of our small budget, I have 9 times out of ten been able to get hold of Nigel but again this isn't personal but it is people's lives

Stars and Mayfair suites have now reopened for business as normal. The Sheffield City Council have acknowledged that the premises can reopen immediately while an appeal is being processed. The appeal process is long and winded and is likely to take many months to come to court. We have taken specialist legal advice and we are confident that we will win our appeal. In the meantime we can therefore assure you that all functions can proceed with a full alcohol licence in place.

I have to admit, I find it slightly concerning that any venue can have it's premises license suspended (therefore closing the venue) pending investigations, then revoked at a full hearing, but gets it back and can open without restrictions or conditions upon placing an appeal into that ruling.

When is your wedding? They can continue to operate as normal until the license appeal which is a while away yet.

Two words - small claim.

Issue claim form, get money back.

In the circumstances, if they can't guarantee they'll be able to fulfill the contract (as they can't guarantee they'll win the appeal), that's the route I'd go down.

Issue via Money Claim Online - look on the Court service website for guidance.

At Stars and Mayfair's appeal hearing today, the Magistrates agreed to reinstate Stars licence in full. Therefore it's business as normal at the venue and all bookings are guaranteed.

So the refunds that are with the insurance company, are they still pending or withdrawn?

Something I am wondering. Why did Stars and Mayfair apply for a temporary license for a wedding reception booked in July under a different group name?

I also notice that you haven't given reasons for the police objecting to this and only removed their objection when you removed your application.
